Kenyatta University is seeking an Associate Professor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to provide academic leadership, clinical excellence, and research innovation. This role involves teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, conducting high-impact research, and providing specialist clinical services in affiliated teaching hospitals. The position is central to the University's mission of delivering high-quality medical education and advancing maternal and reproductive health research.
Responsibilities
Teaching and Instruction: Teach and examine undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.
Supervision: Mentor and supervise Master’s and PhD students through to the successful completion of their research and dissertations.
Research and Publication: Conduct independent and collaborative research leading to publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
Academic Leadership: Provide leadership within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the wider School of Health Sciences.
Curriculum Development: Participate in the development, review, and innovation of medical academic programs.
Clinical Service: Provide specialist clinical services and consultations in affiliated teaching hospitals.
Governance: Actively participate in departmental, faculty, and university governance structures.
Mentorship: Mentor junior academic staff and medical trainees to support professional growth.
Capacity Building: Contribute to the development of research capacity and resources within the department.
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
PhD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or a related discipline from a recognized university; OR
Master of Medicine (MMed) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with recognized subspecialty Fellowship training considered equivalent to a PhD in accordance with CUE guidelines and Senate approval.
Professional Registration: Must be registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) and possess a valid practicing license.
Academic Experience: At least six (6) years of university teaching experience, with a minimum of three (3) years at the rank of Senior Lecturer or equivalent.
Supervision Track Record: Evidence of postgraduate supervision to completion (at least 2 PhD and 3 Master’s students OR at least 10 Master’s students).
Scholarly Output: A minimum of 32 publication points in peer-reviewed journals, including at least three (3) publications since the last promotion. Contribution to scholarly book chapters or other academic publications is also required.
Research Funding: Evidence of successful attraction of research funding or development resources.
Leadership and Service: Demonstrated academic leadership, mentorship, contribution to university governance, community engagement, and professional service.
