Role Overview
Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is seeking five Assistant Research Officers (Biosciences) to join their research team in Kilifi. The successful candidates will be responsible for receiving, processing, and analyzing study data or samples while adhering to Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) and study protocols. The role involves technical laboratory work, data visualization, and contributing to scientific publications.
Key Responsibilities
Data and Sample Management: Receiving, processing, compilation, verification, and storage of study data or samples in compliance with GCLP and study protocols.
Scientific Analysis: Conduct basic phylogenetic analyses, data analysis, and interpretation of study data to identify insights and support synthesis through statistical summaries and visualization techniques.
Reporting and Dissemination: Contribute to report writing, dissemination, and publishing of research work in scientific journals and present at meetings, conferences, and workshops.
Mentorship and Training: Participate in designing mentorship plans, developing learning aids, and delivering training sessions to researchers, students, and interns.
Collaboration and Project Management: Build and maintain relationships with internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure project quality and timely completion.
Laboratory Operations: Run laboratory assays including DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, and sequencing as per developed SOPs and protocols.
Compliance: Ensure full compliance with internal ethical and Research Governance protocols, as well as external legal and regulatory requirements.
Grant Support: Provide technical support to Principal Investigators in identifying funding opportunities and developing research grant proposals.
Requirements
Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Biological Sciences, Bioinformatics or any other relevant field from a recognized university.
Minimum One (1) Year experience in Research from a reputable Research institution.
Experience in the use of current technology specifically the use of automated statistical tools.
Demonstrated high levels of integrity and confidentiality.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work with diverse, multidisciplinary teams and build strong relationships with internal and external collaborators.
Excellent analytical skills and ability to deliver quality outputs within strict timelines.
Flexibility, adaptability, multi-tasking and attention to detail.
