Job Description
This role as an Assistant Livestock Production Officer III, with 8 available posts, is based within the County Government of Kitui. The successful candidates will be instrumental in implementing livestock production programs, offering extension services, farmer training, and collecting vital data to improve agricultural practices and productivity across the county. This position is offered on Permanent and Pensionable terms.
Salary Scale
The position falls under the salary scale starting at Ksh. 26,900 per month and progresses up to Ksh. 35,380 per month, subject to annual increments as specified by the county government pay structure.
Duties and Responsibilities
The core duties include:
Carrying out practical demonstrations related to modern livestock production techniques.
Accompanying extension teams during scheduled farm visits and formal farmer training sessions.
Participating actively in field days and agricultural shows to effectively disseminate current livestock production technologies and relevant information.
Collecting and collating necessary livestock data and information required for calculating gross margins, ensuring market access optimization, and facilitating strategic planning.
Participating in and contributing to collaborative research activities within the livestock sector.
Collecting samples of livestock inputs and products for subsequent laboratory analysis.
Providing technical advice to farmers on crucial aspects such as group formation and the construction of appropriate farm structures and equipment.
Requirements for Appointment
Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
Be a Citizen of Kenya.
Hold a Diploma from a recognized institution in any of the following specialized fields:
Animal Production
Dairy Science and Technology
Animal Science
Agribusiness
Animal Health and Production
Farm Management
Apiculture
Range/Natural Resource Management
Possess a Certificate in computer application skills.
