The Assistant Legal Claims Officer at Britam is responsible for the meticulous review of insurance claim documentation and ensuring adherence to compliance requirements. This role involves providing expert advice to customers regarding their insurance coverage, managing claims inquiries, and maintaining accurate records of all legal claims transactions. The officer plays a critical role in managing the relationship with external legal advocates and ensuring that all claims processes, including payments and recoveries, are handled efficiently and in accordance with established guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Documentation and Compliance: Review all documents and pertinent requirements for insurance claims to ensure they are complete and comply with formal requirements.
Customer Advisory: Advise customers on basic matters regarding their insurance coverage in relation to specific claims.
Inquiry Management: Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding benefits, claims processes, service providers, and the completion of forms.
Claims Recording: Record all claims transactions, including the appointment of legal advocates, medical professionals, and investigators.
Register Maintenance: Ensure that all allocated matters are tracked and updated in the registers, and prepare various claims reports for meetings.
Legal Support: Track and follow up on appeal deposits; assist in providing advice on legal issues; and compile file notes for judgments or out-of-court settlements.
Financial Management: Assist in reviewing reserves according to guidelines; review legal costs from advocates to ensure compliance with SLAs and the Advocates Remuneration Order; and process payments to insured parties and service providers.
External Liaison: Manage external advocates on the Britam Panel through proactive interaction and review status updates to maintain adequate reserves.
Recoveries: Assist with third-party recoveries when required.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) and a Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) from the Kenya School of Law (KSL).
