The Assistant Leather Development Officer III is responsible for improving the quality of hides and skins and promoting leather value addition for both local and international markets. The role involves technical guidance to stakeholders in the leather industry to ensure high-quality production standards.
Key Responsibilities
Develop tannery layout plans under the guidance of a senior officer.
Demonstrate to traders the proper methods of washing, fleshing, trimming, lacing, suspending, and preservation of hides and skins.
Advise on salt types, storage, and methods of application in curing hides and skins.
Participate in siting, designing, and overseeing the construction of suitable hides and skins premises and stores.
Participate in field days, barazas, and workshops to advise livestock farmers on proper animal handling for the production of quality hides and skins.
Demonstrate to skin flayers and traders the appropriate methods of flaying, cleaning, curing, and storage of hides and skins.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
Diploma in any of the following fields: Leather Technology, Footwear Technology, or Leather Goods Design and Development from a recognized institution; OR
Diploma in Animal Health or Environmental Resources Management/Science, plus a two-year Certificate in Hides and Skin Improvement or Leather Technology.
Professional Certificate in Leather Technology.
Certificate in Computer application skills.
Must meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya regarding leadership and integrity.
