Job Description
Tatu is a project of Rendeavour, Africa’s largest urban land developer. Tatu Coffee Estates (Eaagads Limited) is seeking an Assistant Estate Manager to oversee the operational excellence of coffee production. The role involves implementing farm-level standard operating procedures (SOPs) across the entire value chain, from cultivation and harvesting to processing, drying, and storage. The successful candidate will lead a diverse team of supervisors, workers, and technical staff to ensure high-quality coffee production while maintaining profitability and adhering to sustainability and safety standards.
Responsibilities
Operational Management: Implement and monitor Farm Level SOPs for coffee growing, harvesting, processing, drying, sorting, storage, and transport, ensuring adherence to best practices.
Pest and Disease Control: Identify pests and diseases and implement timely control or escalation measures.
Workforce Coordination: Mobilize workers for field work and ensure timely harvesting.
Safety Standards: Enforce 100% adherence to Safety Standards within the estate boundary and during transport.
Quality Control: Implement and maintain stringent quality control systems throughout the production process to guarantee exceptional coffee quality.
Financial Oversight: Manage budgets, control wasteful costs, identify efficiency gains, and drive profitability across the estate.
Inventory Management: Maintain strict control of chemical stocks, farm inputs, coffee inventory, and manpower.
Reporting: Complete daily, weekly, and monthly data capture and reporting without errors; ensure payroll completion.
Sustainability: Adhere to environmental sustainability initiatives, including land management, water conservation, and ethical farming.
Team Leadership: Manage a high-performing team including estate staff, supervisors, workers, processing teams, and workshop staff.
Stakeholder Relations: Foster positive relationships with local communities, government agencies, and industry stakeholders.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, or Agribusiness.
Minimum of 5+ years of progressive experience in agribusiness management.
At least 3 years of direct experience in coffee production.
Good knowledge of coffee cultivation, processing techniques, and quality standards.
Familiarity with sustainability certification programs is an advantage.
Demonstrated financial management skills, including farm-level budgeting and cost control.
Satisfactory verbal and written communication skills in English and Swahili.
Mature, pragmatic, and flexible approach with a hands-on, field-focused mindset.
