Job Description
The Area Vice President for Africa is a senior executive leadership role responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of the Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) Africa region. Based in Nairobi, this position focuses on developing and guiding the implementation of the Africa Strategic Framework, supervising regional leadership, and nurturing relationships with National Organizations and boards. The role involves fostering a culture of mutual accountability, resource mobilization, and strategic advocacy to promote decent housing policies across the continent. Additionally, the Vice President will provide leadership that reflects the organization's Christian values through servant leadership, motivating staff, and serving partner families.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Framework Management: Develop and guide the implementation of the Africa Strategic Framework and key change components in consultation with stakeholders.
Executive Supervision: Supervise key leadership roles across programs, human resources, business services, and resource development.
Stakeholder Relations: Facilitate and nurture relationships with National Organizations and boards, promoting a culture of interdependence and accountability.
Resource Development: Grow resources for HFHI’s operations and cultivate strategic partnerships and funding relationships with external organizations, international agencies, and donors.
Innovation Support: Provide cross-functional support to the work of the Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelter.
Housing Advocacy: Position HFHI as a thought partner and advocate for housing in the region, participating in key forums to promote actions for decent shelter.
Governance Oversight: Serve as the primary focal point for National Office Boards and liaise with Board chairs to strengthen shared accountability.
Regional Stewardship: Provide leadership and stewardship that supports HFHI’s Christian faith and values through active servant leadership.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Pay regular visits to National Organizations to network, attend events, and identify regional issues and concerns.
Requirements
Education: Master’s degree (MBA, MSc, or MA) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Regional Expertise: Minimum of 5+ years of experience working specifically within the Africa region.
Professional Experience: 15+ years of program management or international development/humanitarian experience, with at least 10 years in a leadership role.
Change Management: Proven experience in leading teams and navigating organizational change.
Communication: Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
Interpersonal Skills: Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills to manage complex stakeholder relationships.
