The Area Sales Manager - Busia leads hub performance by coaching field promoters, nurturing relationships with local depots and agrovets, driving high-value direct sales to commercial farms, and overseeing Digital Communication Associates.
Key Responsibilities
Managing and Growing the Promoter Team (30%)
Recruit, hire, onboard, and train promoters placed at depots and agrovets across the hub.
Run daily calls and bi-weekly in-person visits with each promoter to coach performance, resolve issues, and keep them motivated.
Handle poor performance and vacancies quickly so no depot or agrovet is left without active coverage.
Partnering with Depot Staff and Agrovet Owners/Managers (20%)
Visit depot staff and agrovet owners/managers bi-weekly to build and maintain strong working relationships.
Follow up on and collect outstanding payments from depots and agrovets.
Resolve issues raised by depot staff or agrovet owners/managers, escalating any that need additional help.
Managing Digital Communication Associates (20%)
Visit each Digital Communication Associate bi-weekly, coach them on their calls, and review their performance.
Support collaboration between Digital Communication Associates and promoters so farmer follow-up is consistently maintained.
Take part in select farmer-facing events run with or by Digital Communication Associates.
Direct Sales to Commercial Farms (20%)
Identify promising farms (typically 10+ acres) surfaced through promoters, associates, or personal networks, taking over high-potential leads.
Manage a pipeline of around 10 repeat commercial-farm accounts and 10 active leads, visiting repeat accounts bi-weekly.
Close sales with commercial farms and continuously expand repeat purchase volumes.
Reporting (10%)
Record and report hub sales performance on a weekly basis.
Qualifications & Requirements
5+ years of experience selling agri-inputs directly to large commercial farmers.
Bachelor’s degree.
Qualifications in agronomy or agribusiness will be an added advantage.
Must have sound knowledge of farming activities in the area of operation.
Experience managing field teams and/or coaching sales teams.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Self-motivated with a results-driven approach.
Comfortable using tech tools i.e. smartphones, laptops.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
