Job Role Overview
The Area Sales Manager - Bungoma will lead field sales operations, manage and coach field teams (promoters and Digital Communication Associates), cultivate strategic relationships with local agrovets and depots, and drive direct sales to commercial farms across the Bungoma hub.
Key Responsibilities
Managing and Growing the Promoter Team (30% of time)
Recruit, hire, onboard, and train promoters placed at depots and agrovets across the hub.
Run daily calls and bi-weekly in-person visits with each promoter to coach performance, resolve issues, and keep them motivated.
Handle poor performance and vacancies quickly so no depot or agrovet is left without active coverage.
Partnering with Depot Staff and Agrovet Owners/Managers (20% of time)
Visit depot staff and agrovet owners/managers bi-weekly to build and maintain a strong working relationship.
Follow up on and collect outstanding payments from depots and agrovets.
Resolve issues raised by depot staff or agrovet owners/managers, escalating any that need additional support.
Managing Digital Communication Associates (20% of time)
Visit each Digital Communication Associate bi-weekly, coach them on their calls, and review their performance.
Support collaboration between Digital Communication Associates and promoters so farmer follow-up is thoroughly maintained.
Take part in select farmer-facing events run with or by Digital Communication Associates.
Direct Sales to Commercial Farms (20% of time)
Identify promising farms (typically 10+ acres) surfaced through promoters, associates, or personal network, and selectively manage high-potential accounts.
Manage a pipeline of around 10 repeat commercial-farm accounts and 10 active leads, visiting repeat accounts bi-weekly.
Close sales with these farms and continuously grow repeat purchase volumes.
Reporting (10% of time)
Record and report hub sales performance every week.
Qualifications and Experience
5+ years of experience selling agri-inputs directly to large commercial farmers.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Qualifications in agronomy or agribusiness are an added advantage).
Sound knowledge of farming activities in the Bungoma region.
Experience managing field teams and/or coaching sales teams.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Self-motivated with a results-driven approach.
Comfortable using tech tools such as smartphones and laptops.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
