Job Description
The Accountant II at the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the Institute's financial operations. This role involves maintaining accurate financial records, processing payments, and ensuring compliance with statutory and financial regulations within the Finance and Accounts Division.
Responsibilities and Duties
Record Management: Maintain efficient filing systems and ensure the safe-keeping of invoices, receipts, and other critical accounting records.
Payment Processing: Prepare payment vouchers, imprests, and committal documents in accordance with established financial rules and regulations.
Data Maintenance: Capture financial data and maintain primary records including cashbooks, ledgers, vote books, and registers.
Statutory Compliance: Prepare and process payments to statutory bodies such as PAYE, NHIF, NSSF, and HELB.
Banking Operations: Initiate payments via internet banking and post payments/receipt vouchers into the cash books accurately.
Reconciliation: Receipt cash deposits, balance, and reconcile cash books on a daily basis.
Revenue and Liquidity: Maintain the revenue collection register and extract/provide cash liquidity analysis reports.
Claims Handling: Pay personal and merchant claims guided by cash balances in the cash books, ensuring alignment with Treasury regulations.
Reporting: Prepare quarterly financial management reports and other management summaries as required.
Qualifications and Experience
A Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (Accounting/Finance Option), Business Management (Accounting/Finance Option), Economics, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Proficiency in computer applications relevant to accounting and financial management.
