The Nakuru County Government is inviting applications for the position of Accountant I. There are twenty-five (25) vacancies available for this role. The successful candidates will be responsible for providing essential accounting services within the county's financial management framework, ensuring transparency, accuracy, and compliance with statutory regulations.
Responsibilities
Voucher Verification: Verify vouchers and committal documents in accordance with laid down rules and regulations.
Record Maintenance: Capture data and maintain primary records such as cashbooks, ledgers, vote books, and registers.
Financial Reporting: Prepare simple management reports, including Imprest and expenditure returns.
Asset Custody: Ensure the safe custody of government records and assets under their supervision.
Cashiering Duties: Deploy as a cashier to receive duly processed payments and receipt vouchers.
Banking Operations: Write cheques and post payments and receipt vouchers in the cash books.
Reconciliation: Balance and rule cash books on a daily basis.
Cash Management: Arrange for withdrawal of cash for office use and ensure its safety at all times; extract and provide cash liquidity analysis.
Security: Ensure the security of cheques and cheque books.
Treasury Returns: Prepare expenditure and Authority to Incur Expenditure (AIE) funding returns, and Appropriation in Aid (AIA) returns on a quarterly basis at the County treasury level.
Claims Processing: Pay personal and merchant claims guided by cash balances in the cash books and treasury regulations.
Revenue Collection: Receipt all money due and payable to the government.
Requirements and Qualifications
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance option) and have passed Part II of the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Examination.
OR Have passed Part III of the Certified Public Accountants (K) Examination or its approved equivalent qualification.
AND Hold a Certificate in Computer Applications.
