Samuel Hall is an independent think tank specialized in field research and social impact. We strive to provide practicable insights to challenging issues in the developing world by providing academic-standard research through primary data collection in areas where researchers do not commonly go.
The Role
The Youth Intern will be based in Nairobi, Kenya, and will be responsible for supporting the preparation, delivery, and post-event documentation of high-level research events focusing on climate change, displacement, and health. The role involves coordinating logistics, assisting with communications, and conducting light research.
Scope and Key Responsibilities
Event Preparation (May – June 2026)
- Assist in preparing participant lists, invitations, and logistics trackers.
- Support development of communication materials (short briefs, speaker bios, social media content).
- Help organise event materials including agendas, name badges, and printed folders.
- Coordinate regularly with the Europe-based intern to align on tasks and progress.
Event Delivery (Nairobi | End of June / Early July 2026)
- Provide full on-site support during the event including registration desk management.
- Welcome participants and guide logistics.
- Coordinate with vendors, AV, and catering teams.
- Assist with note-taking during lectures, panels, and masterclasses.
- Support documentation of the event through photos, short summaries, and quotes.
Communications & Documentation
- Draft short daily summaries or highlights of discussions.
- Assist with social media posts, newsletters, and event coverage.
- Compile key insights from sessions in accessible, non-technical language.
Research & Learning Support
- Conduct light background research on climate change, displacement, health, and migration themes.
- Support the preparation of briefing notes or summaries for internal use.
Post-Event Tasks
- Assist in organising event outputs: notes, photos, and participant feedback.
- Contribute to a short event report or blog-style summary.
- Provide written reflections or lessons learned as part of the pilot evaluation.
Deliverables
- Session notes and summaries.
- Contributions to communication outputs (social media, short write-ups).
- Support for the final event documentation/report.
- Written reflection on the internship experience.
Profile of the Youth Intern
- An ongoing undergraduate student (final year preferred), based in Nairobi, Kenya.
- Strong interest in global issues, climate change, migration, or displacement.
- Good writing and communication skills in English.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-level event environment.
- Organised, proactive, and eager to learn.
- Educational background: BA/BSc/HND level.
Internship Duration
- Preparation (Onsite from Kenya): May–June 2026.
- Event (full-time): In Nairobi, late June/early July.
- Post-event wrap-up: In Nairobi, 1–2 weeks after the event.
Reporting and Coordination
The Youth Intern will be supervised by a Samuel Hall team member with exposure to AKU partners and event organisers. Weekly check-ins will be held to review progress.
