Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. The university is seeking a Visiting Lecturer for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The role involves delivering lectures, facilitating student learning, and contributing to the academic excellence of the Medical School. Reporting to the Dean of the Medical School, the successful candidate will ensure that the curriculum is delivered effectively while providing academic support and mentorship to students.
Duties and Responsibilities
Deliver lectures and facilitate learning sessions in the assigned areas of specialization, when units are available, in accordance with the approved curriculum and course outline.
Prepare and submit teaching materials, lesson plans, and learning resources for assigned courses in a timely manner.
Administer Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs), assignments, practical assessments, and examinations as scheduled.
Set, invigilate, and mark examinations and submit results within the stipulated timelines.
Provide students with academic guidance, mentorship, and support in their areas of study.
Ensure effective delivery of course content through appropriate teaching methodologies and learner engagement techniques.
Maintain accurate student attendance records, assessment records, and academic progress reports as required by the University.
Keep abreast of developments and emerging trends within the relevant academic or professional field to enrich teaching and learning.
Participate in curriculum review and academic quality assurance activities when called upon.
Engage in scholarly and professional activities including research, publications, conferences, seminars, or professional practice where applicable.
Observe and comply with University policies, academic regulations, and professional standards during the period of engagement.
Undertake any other academic-related duties assigned by the Dean or Head of Department from time to time.
Requirements
Masters of Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynecology (or relevant area of specialization) from a recognized academic institution.
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB).
At least three (3) years teaching and research experience at a university level.
Relevant work experience in the industry.
Registered and licensed to practice by the Relevant Professional Body (Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board).
An earned PhD degree qualification in the relevant area from a recognized/accredited university OR being registered/registrable for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree qualification will be an added advantage.
