Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. The university is currently seeking a Visiting Lecturer in Biochemistry to join the faculty at the Medical School. This role is intended for individuals who can deliver lectures, facilitate learning sessions, and contribute to the academic excellence of the medical programs.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Dean, Medical School, the incumbent will be responsible for:
Delivering lectures and facilitating learning sessions in Biochemistry when units are available, following the approved curriculum.
Preparing and submitting comprehensive teaching materials, lesson plans, and learning resources in a timely manner.
Administering Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs), assignments, and practical assessments as per the schedule.
Setting, invigilating, and marking examinations while ensuring results are submitted within stipulated timelines.
Providing academic guidance, mentorship, and support to students in their areas of study.
Utilizing appropriate teaching methodologies and engagement techniques to ensure effective delivery of course content.
Maintaining accurate student records including attendance, assessment results, and progress reports.
Staying updated with emerging trends and developments within the biochemistry and medical fields.
Participating in curriculum review and academic quality assurance activities.
Engaging in scholarly activities such as research, publications, and attending seminars or conferences.
Complying with all University policies, regulations, and professional standards.
Qualifications and Experience
Master of Medicine in Biochemistry or a relevant area of specialization from a recognized academic institution.
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB).
At least three (3) years of teaching and research experience at a university level.
Relevant work experience in the industry.
Must be registered and licensed to practice by the relevant Professional Body.
An earned PhD degree in the relevant area or proof of being registered/registrable for a PhD will be an added advantage.
