The Underwriter position for First Assurance Kenya (a subsidiary of Absa Bank Limited) based in Kisumu is designed to provide operational support in underwriting processes. The job holder will act as the point of contact and reference for the underwriting section in front of customers, ensuring end-to-end service management. The role requires maintaining a high level of proficiency with relevant stakeholders to deliver on work outputs and ensuring alignment with all established governance and control requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Renewal Management: Ensure renewal notices with appropriate terms are sent 60 days prior to renewal, and oversee the retention portfolio in line with the business strategy.
Policy Issuance: Issue policy documents within the stipulated Turnaround Time (TAT).
Claims Support: Assist the claims department by providing required documents and details immediately.
Quotation Approval: Approve and manage major quotations.
Credit & Retention: Assist in credit control and ensure the retention of existing accounts.
Risk & Loss Control: Control loss by assessing risk, conducting analysis, and recommending policy solutions.
Risk Identification: Identify portfolio risks resulting from client’s underlying business practices, underwriting investigations, or fraud exposure.
Stakeholder & Market Collaboration: Coordinate with internal stakeholders to initiate marketing strategies and meet market penetration and business growth objectives. Drive growth through collaborative engagements with distribution channels, insurance brokers, agents, and bancassurance.
Negotiation: Meet with customers, agents, and brokers to negotiate coverage, price, and service delivery.
Rate Calculation: Calculate group and individual renewal rates based on customers' background, industry, and demographic information.
Application Review: Provide high-level assistance to help with the review, classification, and rating of applications.
Customer Service: Address escalated customer issues proactively and offer friendly, efficient service to customers, handling challenging situations with ease.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in insurance or a business-related field.
Professional Qualification: Progress in Insurance Professional Qualification is required.
Experience: At least 3 years’ experience in underwriting.
Certification: Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC): Business, Commerce and Management Studies is required.
