One Acre Fund is a nonprofit organization that supplies smallholder farmers in East Africa with asset-based financing and agriculture training services to reduce hunger and poverty. We are seeking a Roasting Officer to lead end-to-end roasted macadamia production, supervise the roasting team, ensure quality and food safety standards, meet order timelines, and drive process improvements and efficiency.
Responsibilities
End-to-End Roasted Production Management
Liaise closely with the Sales team to understand order volumes, timelines, and urgency.
Manage the full roasted macadamia process: receiving of raw materials, roasting, sorting, cooling, flavoring, packaging, and dispatch.
Ensure data is collected at every production step to enhance proper traceability of the products.
Plan and schedule daily roasting activities based on confirmed orders and priorities.
Ensure roasting parameters (temperature, time, batch size, moisture levels) meet defined standards.
Food Safety and Quality Management
Serve as an active member of the food safety team and ensure departmental information is included in the Food Safety Management System (FSMS) updates.
Verify the accuracy of flow diagrams through on-site checking and maintain records of verified diagrams, corrections, and actions.
Conduct hazard analysis to determine necessary controls and implement processes to validate control measures.
Analyze verification activity results, including internal and external audits, to improve the FSMS.
Evaluate the FSMS at planned intervals to assist management in maintaining system updates regarding material movements, sampling, and hygiene analysis.
Leadership and Employee Development
Supervise roasting operators and casual staff, allocating tasks and shifts based on workload.
Train staff on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), food safety protocols, and equipment operation.
Handle employee grievances effectively and communicate them to management when necessary.

Qualifications and Skills
Education: BA/BSc/HND degree.
Experience: At least 2 years of experience in the Macadamia processing industry.
Supervision: At least one year of experience in a supervision or leadership role.
Technical Skills: Basic math and computer skills, specifically proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of food safety, HACCP, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Core Competencies: Exceptional organizational skills, high attention to detail, and a proactive approach to learning and process enhancement.
