Maseno University is seeking a Technologist in Human Anatomy (Ref: MSU/ACA/SOM/DHA/01/26) to join the School of Medicine. This role is responsible for providing technical support within the Human Anatomy laboratory, ensuring that all equipment and materials are prepared for teaching and research, and maintaining high standards of laboratory safety and efficiency.
Duties and Responsibilities
Laboratory Management: Participate in departmental committees and internal laboratory/workshop auditing.
Safety and Compliance: Ensure the safekeeping and proper disposal of biological and chemical waste following practical sessions.
Preparation: Obtain and set up equipment for practical sessions and demonstrations; collect and prepare teaching and research materials.
Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory and workshop equipment.
Academic Support: Coordinate, invigilate, and mark practical examinations; supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students during practical sessions.
Procurement: Compile requirements and facilitate the acquisition of laboratory supplies to ensure they are available at the point of use.
Outreach: Participate in university shows and exhibitions.
Other Duties: Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
Requirements and Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet one of the following sets of criteria:
Option 1: A Higher Diploma in Histology, Anatomy & Histopathology, or an equivalent qualification from an accredited and recognized university, plus at least three (3) years of relevant working experience.
Option 2: A Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science or Mortuary Science with at least five (5) years of working experience specifically in an Anatomy Laboratory.
General Requirements:
Valid membership in a relevant professional body.
Proficiency in relevant computer applications.
