The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Technical Consultant to lead the implementation and delivery of the 'Integrated Management of Marine and Coastal Resources of the Northern Mozambique Channel (NoCaMo)' project. The role involves overseeing project outputs, monitoring activities, and ensuring technical excellence in the management of marine and coastal resources within the Nairobi Convention framework.
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead the implementation and delivery of project outputs and support regular monitoring and reporting of all NoCaMo project activities.
Undertake delivery of assigned technical outputs and coordinate delivery of project outputs by project partners.
Review technical reports and knowledge products developed by implementing partners.
Collate all project outputs, briefs, publications, lessons learned, and best practices for uploading to the NoCaMo project page on the Nairobi Convention website.
Analyze reports and outputs on marine spatial planning (MSP) within the NoCaMo project countries, identifying emerging trends, risks, and opportunities.
Prepare statistics and visualizations of project outputs and knowledge products for dissemination through the Nairobi Convention clearinghouse.
Develop a sustainability strategy for the NoCaMo project, including drafting concepts and proposals to facilitate project upscaling.
Demonstrate linkages between the NoCaMo project and the Convention’s Programme of Work 2025-2028, including other Nairobi Convention projects and partner initiatives.
Prepare technical progress reports for assigned outputs and compile progress reports provided by partners for donor reporting.
Prepare the final project report covering achievements, outputs, outcomes, challenges, lessons learned, and policy recommendations.
Map linkages between MSP work done under NoCaMo and proposed work under SWIOP, contributing to the development of the SWIOP workplan.
Set up a programme for implementation of MSP work under the SWIOP.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Marine Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Natural Resources Management, Ecology, Ocean Governance, or a similar discipline is required.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant progressive experience in integrated marine and coastal management.
Technical Expertise: Strong expertise in marine and coastal project management, preferably in a regional context, and familiarity with Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) processes.
Organizational Background: Demonstrated experience in organizations with a mandate or relevancy to the marine and coastal environments is required.
Regional Knowledge: Experience working on coastal and marine environment issues in the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) region is highly desired.
