BURN is looking for a Carbon Technical Officer who will support the development, review, and delivery of high-quality carbon documentation, ensuring compliance with global standards and timely project certification and credit issuance. This role plays a key part in strengthening Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) processes, maintaining data quality, and driving continuous improvement across BURN’s carbon operations through technical expertise and cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Documentation Preparation & Review: Prepare final drafts and review all carbon reports, including design documentation (VPA DDs, PoA DDs, and standalone PDDs), Monitoring Reports, Stakeholder Consultation reports, and Emissions Reductions Calculations Files.
Timeline Management: Review field activity timelines (Baseline and Monitoring Surveys) to ensure alignment with target issuance dates, allowing sufficient time for VVB audits and carbon registry reviews (Gold Standard, VERRA).
SOP & QA/QC Development: Review and prepare Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Quality Assurance plans for technical aspects like sampling protocols, survey questionnaires, and SDG impact measurements.
Compliance & Audit Support: Ensure all supporting documentation is organized and meets requirements specified by project methodologies and registries before validation or verification.
Process Improvement: Prepare checklists for field activities to standardize reporting and reduce timelines for registration and issuance.
Capacity Building: Conduct bi-monthly training for the Carbon Operations department to ensure compliance with standards and updated registry rules.
External Liaison: Provide first-level responses to reviews from VVBs and carbon registries from project listing through to credit issuance.
Risk Management: Identify and manage SWOT factors to de-risk credit issuance regarding time, scope, and budget.
Strategic Updates: Stay up-to-date on all Standard (GS/VERRA/CDM) updates to ensure BURN remains ahead of required strategic changes.
Requirements and Experience
Education: BA/BSc/HND qualification in a relevant technical field.
Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in carbon asset development.
Technical Knowledge: Mastery of Gold Standard cookstove and metered methodologies.
Certification Record: Proven track record in end-to-end certification (from design documentation through to issuance).
Management: Experience managing junior analysts or technical staff.
Writing Skills: Excellence in written technical documentation.
Soft Skills: High attention to detail, data accuracy, positive attitude, and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
