The role of the Sustainability and ESG Analyst is positioned at the Senior Officer level within Equity Bank Kenya.
Job Purpose
The primary focus of this role is environmental and social risk due diligence and ESG capacity building. Key responsibilities include implementing sustainability risk frameworks and ensuring compliance through data analytics. The analyst is also tasked with identifying and managing sustainability opportunities, supporting ESG policy development, assessing vendor risks, and following up on action plans. Administrative duties support the broader goal of integrating sustainability into financial operations while ensuring regulatory compliance and fostering ESG growth.
Key Responsibilities
- ESRM Implementation & Quality Assurance: Implement ESRM procedures and perform Quality Assurance for climate finance by generating and disseminating the monthly quality assurance report.
- Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD): Conduct Environmental and Social Risk due diligence (both desk-top and site visit based) for client facility/loan requests.
- Vendor and Supplier HSESDD: Conduct Health Safety and Environment Due Diligence (HSESDD) of suppliers and vendors.
- Monitoring and Tracking: Monitor environmental and social performance of multiple portfolio clients and track client implementation of environmental and social risk action plans (ESAP’s).
- Group Support: Provide ESRM and ESDD support for Equity Group Subsidiaries.
- Financial & Growth Initiatives: Support financial mobilization on New to Bank opportunities, contribute to deposit growth from sustainability opportunities, and promote Green Finance Loan Growth.
- Risk Management: Ensure effective implementation of the Sustainability Risk Management Framework and Procedures in EBKL, including necessary training.
- Data and Reporting: Support data and analytics on Environmental and Social Risk Management for compliance and DFI reporting.
- Opportunities Management: Follow up and ensure closure on climate finance opportunities identified during the assessment process.
- Policy Development: Contribute to the wider organizational ESG policy, procedures, and tool development and implementation.
- Supply Chain Support: Support the supply chain department with vendor E&S risk assessments during onboarding.
- Administrative Duties: Perform General Administrative duties.
Qualifications and Experience
Education and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline (environment or social sciences).
- Sustainability & Climate Risk Specialist certification from the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) is an added advantage.
Experience:
- 2 - 4 years of experience in ESG and sustainability roles.
- 2 - 3 years of banking experience.
