Job Description
The Open University of Kenya (OUK) is an innovative institution employing technology-driven teaching and learning methodologies. The university is seeking qualified Supervisors for its Postgraduate Diploma in Learning Design and Technology. These supervisors will be responsible for providing academic and research guidance to postgraduate candidates, ensuring high standards of research ethics and academic rigor through OUK's digital platforms.
Roles & Responsibilities
Provide academic and research supervision to Masters and PhD candidates.
Guide candidates through all stages of the research process, including proposal development, research design, data collection, analysis, and thesis writing.
Mentor candidates through virtual supervision on OUK's digital platforms.
Ensure adherence to OUK's Graduate Studies Policy, research ethics, quality standards, and other University policies, including strict adherence to timelines.
Provide timely and constructive feedback and progress reports as per institutional guidelines.
Support candidates in preparation for thesis defense and the publication of research outputs.
Qualifications and Competencies
For appointment to this grade, candidates must meet the following criteria based on the level of supervision:
Qualifications for a PhD Supervisor
An earned PhD in a relevant field from a recognised institution.
At least three (3) peer-reviewed publications in the last five years.
Strong digital mentoring and online engagement skills to effectively support learners in virtual environments.
Familiarity and prior experience with online or virtual supervision is an added advantage.
Qualifications for a Masters Supervisor
PhD in a relevant field OR a Master’s degree with significant research/professional experience in specialized areas.
Demonstration of supervision of Masters candidates to completion.
At least two (2) peer-reviewed publications in the last five years.
Strong digital mentoring and online engagement skills to effectively support learners in virtual environments.
Familiarity and prior experience with online or virtual supervision is an added advantage.
