Job Description
BuuPass is seeking a Content & Community Associate who lives on TikTok, Instagram Reels, and X—someone who understands what makes African internet culture tick and can turn a bus journey into a moment people share. This is not a traditional marketing role; we need someone who can build a brand people genuinely love and talk about online. Key Responsibilities
Short-Form Content Creation & Strategy
Own the short-form video strategy across TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts from concept to execution.
Ideate and produce high-volume, fast-turnaround content that taps into trending sounds, formats, and cultural moments relevant to African audiences.
Build a consistent content rhythm by testing formats relentlessly until you find what spreads.
Act as the creative engine, shooting and editing content independently when needed.
Community Building & Virality
Develop and execute a community strategy that turns BuuPass users, drivers, and operators into advocates and content creators.
Identify and engage micro-influencers, travel creators, and everyday commuters to amplify organic reach.
Manage and grow social communities by responding, engaging, and sparking conversations that feel human.
Spot viral opportunities in real-time and move fast to capitalize on them.
Build UGC (user-generated content) campaigns to get customers posting about their BuuPass journeys.
Brand Voice & Storytelling
Develop a distinct, recognizable BuuPass voice that resonates across East and Southern Africa.
Find human stories hidden in company data (20M+ journeys).
Collaborate with the design team on visuals and with founders on brand positioning.
Use data to discontinue underperforming formats and double down on successful ones.
Report weekly on content performance with a clear point of view on strategy adjustments.
Requirements and Qualifications
2–4 years of experience in social media, content creation, or community management, ideally at a consumer brand or startup.
Bachelor's degree (BA/BSc) or Higher National Diploma (HND).
Native user of TikTok and Instagram Reels with an intuitive understanding of their algorithms.
A portfolio of content you have created that performed well (with numbers).
Strong video editing skills (CapCut, Adobe Premiere, or similar) and basic shooting skills.
Deep understanding of African pop culture, internet trends, and how people communicate online in Kenya, South Africa, and Nigeria.
A bias for action—preferring to ship and learn rather than perfect and delay.
Bonus: Experience building communities, running creator programs, or growing accounts from scratch.
