Amentum is a global leader in designing, engineering, and modernizing critical systems and programs of national importance across defense, security, intelligence, energy, and the environment. We are currently seeking a Shipwright to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for constructing and repairing ships according to specific blueprints and ship plans, ensuring precise alignment and structural integrity of vessels during the construction or repair process.
Principal Accountabilities
Construction and Repair: Build or repair ships following detailed blueprints or ship plans. This includes sighting, plotting, and marking reference points and lines on building docks or shipways to maintain vessel alignment using transits, plumb bobs, tapes, and levels.
Support Structures: Construct keel and bilge blocks, cradles, and shoring to support ships in dry-docks, marine railways, shipways, or building docks, using various woodworking hand and power tools.
Fabrication and Installation: Fabricate and install furring pieces, aprons, upright pieces, and other wood framing components within the ship.
Component Assembly: Secure metal fittings, plates, and bulkheads to wooden ship parts using braces, bits, augers, mauls, and wrenches.
General Support: Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure project success.
Knowledge and Skills
Tool Proficiency: Familiarity with selecting and using appropriate tools and equipment for specific tasks, as well as maintaining and repairing systems.
Technical Literacy: Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
Physical Aptitude: Capable of performing manual work with good manual dexterity for handling tools and machinery.
Safety and Precision: Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and a high level of safety awareness.
Operational Control: Ability to control the operations of various equipment or systems.
Experience and Education
Experience: At least five (5) years of related experience is preferred.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (KCSE).
Licensing: Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
Compliance: Additional experience or education may be required depending on specific contract or assignment requirements.
