About the Role
World Vision is an international Christian relief, development, and advocacy organization working in nearly 100 countries worldwide to create lasting change in the lives of children, families, and communities, enabling them to overcome poverty and injustice. As part of its commitment to protecting children and promoting their well-being, World Vision in Kenya is seeking a highly qualified End Child Marriage (ECM) Technical Manager to join the Big Dream End Child Marriage (BDECM) Program based in Nairobi National Office.
The Senior Technical Manager provides critical technical support to Implementation, External Engagement/Learning, and Capacity Building. The role requires depth and breadth of technical expertise in program management, design, and implementation of World Vision project models. The position ensures that programming aligns with WV and international best practices, providing guidance to ECM Field Offices on quality benchmarks, child protection trends, and emerging issues.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management and Technical Support
- Provide technical support and guidance in the design and implementation of WV’s child protection project approaches/models, ensuring alignment with global strategies and field contexts.
- Support field Managers to ensure ECM is implemented collaboratively and effectively across various contexts.
- Ensure technical approaches and strategies are communicated to and understood by Child Protection Officers and Project leaders.
- Ensure the fidelity of implementation of child protection models and adherence to phasing and sequencing plans.
- Design promoted methodologies and tools to meet ministry goals and donor sector strategies.
- Develop evidence-building strategies with program and M&E leads to strengthen WV approach delivery.
- Coordinate field support visits in accordance with implementation, monitoring, and evaluation plans.
- Identify, communicate, and escalate program quality concerns to the ECM Director and key stakeholders.
Capacity Strengthening
- Oversee the development and implementation of technical capacity-building plans for staff.
- Provide guidance and technical support to ECM Field Offices (FOs) in the implementation and monitoring of World Vision models.
- Act as the Technical Lead to position ECM Field Offices for the integrated implementation of the five key program pillars.
- Develop and conduct training in program methodologies and concepts.
- Support qualitative monitoring of program interventions in coordination with M&E colleagues.
External Engagement
- Provide technical support in child protection dialogues, external engagement, and strategic positioning.
- Proactively seek opportunities for technical branding of project learnings and achievements.
- Engage as a ‘technical expert’ with priority stakeholders and strategic networks.
- Participate in assessments, surveys, or evaluations necessary for standards setting.
- Coordinate the learning agenda and adaptive management learning and reflection (CLA) with MEL staff.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Development Studies, Human Rights, International Development, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 8 years of ECM technical experience in an international NGO, with at least 4 years in a leadership or team lead capacity overseeing child protection, PSEA, or GBV work.
- Technical Skills: Specialist expertise in child protection, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), and Gender-Based Violence (GBV). Strong Project Management skills.
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of child marriage issues in Kenya; understanding of global strategies and frameworks to end violence against children.
- Competencies: Strong relationship building/network capacity, advanced writing skills (technical documents, proposals), workshop facilitation skills, and the ability to influence others.
- Values: Spiritual maturity in the Christian faith and alignment with World Vision’s mission.
