The Senior Security Assistant at South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) is responsible for overseeing and assisting in the maintenance of a safe and secure environment for the university community. This role involves proactive patrolling, monitoring access control, supervising the security team, and ensuring adherence to institutional rules and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Patrols and Perimeter Security: Conduct periodic patrols within the University to ensure all centers are manned at all times and a tight perimeter is maintained.
Hostel Monitoring: Carry out spot checks at student hostels to monitor unauthorized access and ensure accountability of the occupants.
Access Control: Issue gate passes to students and staff members to ensure only authorized access to the University.
Visitor Management: Issue University visitor badges at the main gate for clear and easy identification.
Enforcement: Arrest both staff and students involved in violence or breaches of University rules and regulations in line with institutional policy.
Reporting: Report any theft or loss of University property for investigation and further action.
Staff Welfare: Ensure the welfare of security staff is addressed, including the availability of uniforms and necessary tools for efficient operations.
Supervision: Supervise security guards to ensure they perform their duties effectively.
Documentation: Maintain the Occurrence Book (OB) for record-keeping and incident tracking.
Person Specification
Education: Must possess a Diploma in Criminology, Social Order, or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
Experience: At least four (4) years of working experience in a University setting or appropriately trained in security work within the Kenya Police Service or Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) at the rank of Sergeant.
Age: Must be at least 30 years of age.
Integrity: Must be a person of high integrity.
Fitness: Must be physically and medically fit.
Technical Skills: Must be computer proficient and conversant with ERP systems.
Certification: Must have a valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
