Job Description
Absa Bank Limited is seeking a Senior Product Manager to lead and develop a high-performing team while overseeing the digital product lifecycle. This role involves managing performance, implementing local product pricing strategies, identifying new product opportunities, and ensuring robust governance and control within the digital banking environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for meeting income targets, managing budgets, and aligning product propositions with the bank's digital strategy.
Key Responsibilities
People Management (40%)
Build and develop a high-performing team through performance development and coaching.
Provide continuous feedback to help team members achieve their maximum potential.
Discuss and finalize Performance Development Plans and ratings for all staff.
Recommend reward allocations, including bonuses and pay increases.
Manage training needs analysis and succession planning.
Hire staff based on HR shortlists and conduct exit interviews for departing employees.
Oversee staff attendance, including leave approvals and monthly absence reporting.
Initiate misconduct or incapacity charges following Absa discipline processes.
Ensure team members resolve customer queries and complaints timely, acting as an escalation point.
Motivate staff through recognition schemes and create an empowering environment.
Product Oversight (30%)
Meet income targets for digital products by implementing local pricing strategies.
Identify opportunities for new product development and enhancement aligned with the digital strategy.
Oversee product research, testing, and implementation processes in-country.
Review customer segmentation and recommend activities to target profitable segments.
Monitor competitor activity and pricing to provide feedback to management.
Review legal, regulatory, and income assessments prepared by product analysts.
Analyze customer satisfaction surveys and implement action plans to address issues.
Support the Sales Campaign Manager in developing product-specific campaigns.
Maintain relationships with internal service providers like Marketing, Communications, and Operations.
Governance and Control (20%)
Review monthly tariff reports to address errors and deviations.
Review notices for government, regulators, and customers prior to distribution.
Collaborate with the Operations Director on issues related to product design or distribution channels.
Manage snap checks and ensure remediation of failures.
Ensure compliance with Absa policies, including Health and Safety.
Own and manage the business continuity management plan for the product team.
Report incidents or risk events via the Vantage system.
Ensure adherence to project governance standards for new products or channels.
Business Management (10%)
Take accountability for team objectives regarding employee satisfaction, customer experience, cost performance, and risk management.
Manage costs strictly, including overtime, equipment maintenance, and staff costs.
Provide direction on business objectives and prioritize performance measures.
Requirements
Academic Qualifications
First degree in commerce or banking.
MBA (Master of Business Administration).
Professional qualification in Project Management.
Experience
At least 8 years’ experience in product development in a digital banking environment.
