Scientific Research Corporation is an advanced engineering company providing innovative solutions to the U.S. Government, private industry, and international markets. We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for a 36-month project located at the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, with expected follow-on work within the Department of State (DoS) program.
The Role
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide a full range of critical engineering and construction quality assurance, management, and technical oversight for the Nairobi CAA project. This involves ensuring that all mechanical work complies with technical specifications, US building codes, and standard building practices.
Key Responsibilities
Perform technical inspections of mechanical work and monitor the contractor's quality control program.
Review project drawings, specifications, and engineering shop drawings to ensure compliance with design parameters and US codes.
Support and assist in ensuring the completion of the project in accordance with applicable standards.
Observe onsite construction to verify that elements are installed, formed, and executed properly.
Review contractor submittals and resolve technical conflicts or non-compliance issues.
Monitor construction progress against the project schedule and submit weekly progress reports.
Prepare construction reports detailing progress and identifying potential problems.
Evaluate contractor proposed remedies and formulate solutions for the Project Director/Construction Manager.
Coordinate the development of Independent Government Estimates (IGEs) for modifications and change orders.
Review design calculations and data from an engineering perspective.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Director or Contracting Officer's Representative (COR).
Requirements and Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program.
Minimum of seven (7) years of experience on construction projects of similar scope and value (Note: Design office experience does not count toward this total).
A Professional Engineering License (PE) is acceptable in lieu of a degree.
Must hold a Final Secret, interim Top Secret (TS), or Final TS security clearance issued by the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) at the time of consideration.
Comprehensive knowledge of International Codes.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
Ability to read design/construction drawings and understand design narratives and calculations.
Specific experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS), monitor controls and disconnects, general plumbing, water/sewage treatment, and power generation.
Overseas experience is preferred.
