The Senior Manager, Retail Digital User Design Lead is the design philosopher and strategist for NCBA's Retail Digital Solutions. In this role, you will be the 'Go-To-Person' for Retail Banking Design, blending psychology, design, and technology to optimize usability. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to shape every stage of the design process, from concept development to user testing, ensuring digital products captivate and delight users. This is a critical role that influences strategic direction and has direct access to executive leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Design Strategy: Serve as the lead philosopher for design, defining the vision rather than just executing briefs.
User Research: Conduct comprehensive user research, interviews, and surveys to inform design decisions.
Interface Optimization: Blend psychology and technology to optimize usability across Retail Channels (Borrow, Invest, Insure, Transact).
Team Leadership: Manage internal and external designers, teaching design as a strategic discipline and coaching them across all design areas.
Stakeholder Influence: Challenge and influence senior stakeholders (C-suite, product/tech leads) on design decisions.
Design Documentation: Prepare detailed design documentation for seamless collaboration with development teams.
Requirements and Qualifications
Academic: Minimum of an undergraduate degree (BA/BSc/HND).
Experience:
At least 7 years in product/UX design roles.
Minimum of 3 years operating at a strategic leadership level.
Experience designing fintech, payments, or digital financial services within regulated environments.
Proven track record of managing small design teams (2-10 people).
Technical Skills: Expert-level command of Figma, Adobe XD, and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.).
Certifications: Certification in HCD (Human-Centered Design), Design Thinking, or equivalent is a significant advantage.
Communication: Exceptional skills to articulate complex design thinking to non-designers and executives.
Highly Desirable Attributes
International design experience where design is a strategic discipline.
Experience designing wallet, super-app, or platform-based products.
Track record of building a design function from scratch or transforming design culture.
Understanding of the African market context (connectivity, literacy, trust, regulation).
Background in service design, design systems, or design operations.
