Role Purpose
The Senior Manager – Credit Analysis is responsible for managing the credit risk analysis function and preparing credit proposals for approval within required quality and turnaround standards. In liaison with the Relationship Managers and Branch Managers, you will monitor ongoing covenants and conditions as per approval/offer terms, including social and environmental lending terms. This role entails the formulation and implementation of robust credit analysis policies and guidelines in liaison with all business units and contributes to the overall portfolio management for the bank.
Key Responsibilities
Credit Analysis
- Manage the Credit analysis team to contribute to overall business goals.
- Supervise Credit Analysts to develop high-quality credit solutions and recommend appropriate facilities in line with risk evaluation.
- Evaluate new business/projects financially and provide guidance on market risk.
- Prepare credit reports for new proposals and renewals and provide guidance on structuring, due diligence, and KYC.
- Decline non-viable deals early while identifying alternatives that meet risk acceptable parameters.
- Accompany relationship managers during customer visits to understand borrowing needs and validate information.
- Analyze and structure SME, Corporate, and Trade Finance facility requests.
- Oversee credit grading of borrowers and monitor risk profile migration.
- Ensure all deals comply with bank lending policy, prudential, and legal requirements.
- Formulate and review credit analysis processes and controls.
Credit Risk Monitoring
- Support completion of mandatory checklists: Climate Risk, Environment & Social Risk, and Reputational Risk assessments.
- Track lending covenants/conditions for timely collection of management accounts and annual reviews.
- Monitor Covenants & Risk Triggers (C&RTs) and raise breaches to the Director – Credit.
- Identify and report accounts showing early signs of deterioration.
- Scan the external market for risk trends impacting the loan portfolio.
Customer Experience
- Enhance customer experience through timely annual reviews and SLA adherence.
- Provide continuous training to the team to reduce reworks.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors for timely information submission.
Leadership and Management
- Set performance objectives and measures of success for direct reports.
- Responsible for assigning tasks, scheduling work, and reviewing results for accuracy and quality.
- Encourage staff participation in training and development opportunities.
- Ensure proper succession planning and maintain an effective leave program.
- Live the brand values and project the right image of the bank to staff and customers.
Qualifications and Experience
- University degree preferably in Accounting, Finance, or Management.
- A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- At least ten years of banking experience, with at least 5 years at a Manager level in credit risk analysis or approval.
- At least 5 years’ experience in Corporate Credit analysis or approval.
- Professional Banking qualification (ACIB) or Certification in Credit Analysis/Monitoring is an added advantage.
Skills and Competencies
- Proven experience in Credit Risk Analysis and Structuring.
- Advanced understanding of credit risk policies and procedures.
- Strong financial analysis skills and knowledge of lending products.
- Effective communication, problem-solving, and collaborative leadership skills.
