KCB Bank Kenya is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel for Risk & Compliance to oversee the bank's adherence to legislative requirements and manage legal risks associated with its operations. The role involves reviewing legislation, providing legal support for bank projects, and conducting internal compliance audits to ensure the bank operates within the legal framework.
Key Responsibilities
Legislative Review & Advisory: Review legislation, proposed bills, judicial decisions, best practice, and market trends which have an impact on the Bank and advise/recommend changes to Bank policies and procedures. Provide advice in relation to compliance matters as contained in the legislation.
Compliance Management: Provide support in ensuring that the Bank complies with all applicable laws and regulations. Conduct internal legal compliance audits and examinations to ensure compliance with legislative requirements. Liaise with relevant business where legal risks have been identified, to develop mitigating measures and implement remedial action.
Legal Risk Analysis: Update legal compliance checklists and matrixes used for undertaking legal compliance reviews in line with legislation. Conduct legal risk analysis and provide legal support for new and ongoing Bank projects and provide legal support in research, drafting, and review of Bank policies, product terms, and conditions.
Intellectual Property & Power of Attorney: Undertake intellectual property registration and life cycle management as allocated. Handle Power of Attorney (PA) Management: Preparation, registration, revocation, and maintenance of data/information of the KCB Kenya PAs.
Knowledge Management: Manage case law (internal and external case law and legal opinions) and the preparation and dissemination of practice notes, FAQs, and training materials and guidelines.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Law from a recognized University.
Post graduate diploma in Law.
Minimum five (5) years' relevant post-admission experience, preferably in the financial services sector.
Specific experience in legal drafting, risk management, communication, and advocacy.
