Laikipia University is seeking a Senior Lecturer for the School of Education. The successful candidate will be responsible for academic leadership, curriculum development, and high-quality instruction at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This role involves significant research contributions, student mentorship, and administrative service to the university.
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead in curriculum development and review processes.
Develop appropriate learning and teaching materials to ensure effective delivery of subject matter.
Participate in the development of research projects to extend knowledge in the relevant subject area.
Participate in the provision of service to the community and the profession.
Participate in the translation and implementation of knowledge into practice.
Participate in discussions on examination results in departments, schools, and the senate to ensure effectiveness and improved performance.
Provide expertise in areas of specialization for income generation programs for the university.
Prepare and deliver course outlines, materials, and content to students.
Deliver lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Conduct continual evaluation of students’ course work to assess performance and delivery effectiveness.
Maintain accurate records of students’ attendance, assignments, and continuous assessments.
Generate innovation activities and intellectual property in the area of specialization.
Undertake academic consultancies and research projects.
Publish in peer-reviewed articles, books, and book chapters.
Assess students’ performance and prepare progress reports.
Conduct academic seminars at departmental and school levels.
Attend senate, school, and departmental meetings.
Participate in conferences, symposia, and workshops.
Supervise both postgraduate and undergraduate research works.
Undertake placement and supervision of students on industrial attachment, teaching practice, and internship.
Keep up-to-date with current developments in innovation, research, and teaching.
Undertake editorial and review tasks in academic journals.
Conduct internal moderation of exams.
Serve as patron to academic clubs/student organizations and participate in university committees.
Requirements for Appointment
Must have a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s degree from an accredited and recognized University in the relevant field.
Must have an earned Doctorate degree (PhD) or equivalent Doctoral degree from an accredited and recognized University in the relevant field.
At least three (3) years of continuous teaching experience at the university level as a Lecturer OR six (6) years of research/industry experience.
A minimum of thirty-two (32) publication points as a Lecturer or equivalent, of which at least twenty-four (24) should be from refereed scholarly journals.
Successfully supervised postgraduate students (at least 3 Master’s OR 1 PhD and 1 Master’s) to completion as a Lecturer or equivalent.
Registered with the relevant professional body (where applicable).
