Taita Taveta University (TTU) is seeking a qualified and experienced Senior Lecturer for the Department of History. As a Grade 13 academic staff member, the successful candidate will provide high-level instruction to undergraduate and postgraduate students, lead original research initiatives, and mentor the next generation of historians. The university is a newly chartered public institution and an Academic Centre of Excellence based near Voi Town.
Responsibilities and Duties
Deliver lectures and conduct seminars for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in History.
Develop and update course curricula and instructional materials to maintain high academic standards.
Conduct original, high-quality research and publish results in reputable, refereed scholarly journals.
Supervise Masters and PhD candidates through their research and thesis development to successful completion.
Participate in administrative duties, university committees, and departmental meetings.
Contribute to the university's mission as an Academic Centre of Excellence through scholarly engagement.
Requirements and Qualifications
Academic Degree: An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in History from an accredited and recognized University.
Teaching Experience: At least three (3) years of teaching experience at the university level as a Lecturer, OR six (6) years of significant research/industry experience.
Research Output: A minimum of four (4) articles in refereed journals OR a minimum of thirty-two (32) publication points as a Lecturer (or equivalent), with at least twenty-four (24) points derived from refereed scholarly journals.
Supervision Record: Successful supervision of at least three (3) post-graduate students at either Masters or PhD level to completion as a Lecturer or equivalent.
Professional Registration: Must be registered with the relevant professional body where applicable.
Terms of Service
This position is offered on Permanent and Pensionable Terms.
The successful candidate will be entitled to applicable allowances as approved by the University Council.
