Taita Taveta University (TTU), a public Academic Centre of Excellence, is seeking to recruit qualified and experienced academic staff for the positions of Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in Geography. These positions are on Permanent and Pensionable terms and are intended for individuals who can contribute to teaching, research, and postgraduate mentorship in a dynamic university environment.
Responsibilities
Lecturer (Grade 12)
Deliver high-quality instruction at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Conduct independent research and contribute to the academic development of the Geography department.
Engage in administrative duties as assigned by the department or university.
Mentor students and participate in community outreach programs.
Senior Lecturer (Grade 13)
Provide academic leadership within the Geography department.
Teach and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Maintain an active research portfolio with high-impact publications.
Successfully guide postgraduate candidates (Masters and PhD) through to completion.
Participate in grant writing and resource mobilization for the university.
Qualifications and Requirements
For Lecturer – Grade 12:
Must possess an earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in Geography or a relevant field from an accredited and recognized University.
Registration with a relevant professional body (where applicable) is mandatory.
For Senior Lecturer – Grade 13:
Must possess an earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in Geography or a relevant field from an accredited and recognized University.
A minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience at the university level as a Lecturer OR six (6) years of relevant research/industry experience.
A minimum of four (4) articles in refereed journals or a minimum of thirty-two (32) publication points as a Lecturer (or equivalent), with at least twenty-four (24) points from refereed scholarly journals.
Evidence of having supervised at least three (3) post-graduate students at either Masters or PhD level to completion as a Lecturer or equivalent.
Registration with a relevant professional body (where applicable).
Terms of Service
The positions are on Permanent and Pensionable Terms.
Successful candidates will receive applicable allowances as approved by the University Council.
