The University of Embu (UoEm) is seeking a qualified and dedicated academic to join its faculty as a Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering. Established as a Constituent College of the University of Nairobi in 2011 and succeeding the former Embu Agricultural Staff Training (EAST) College, the University of Embu has a long history of providing technical and agricultural training. This role is designed for an experienced professional capable of delivering high-quality education, leading research initiatives, and mentoring the next generation of engineers.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Deliver comprehensive lectures and academic instruction in Civil Engineering subjects.
Conduct impactful research and maintain a consistent record of publication in refereed scholarly journals.
Supervise postgraduate students, specifically guiding Masters candidates to the successful completion of their degrees.
Actively pursue and secure research grants to support departmental and individual research projects.
Participate in and contribute to learned conferences, seminars, and professional workshops.
Provide leadership and engage in university-wide activities and administrative committees.
Demonstrate ongoing commitment to professional development and research excellence.
Requirements and Qualifications
At least five (5) years of university teaching experience, with at least three (3) of those years served as a full-time Lecturer.
Minimum of 32 publication points, with at least 24 points derived from articles in refereed scholarly journals since appointment as a Lecturer.
Successful supervision to completion of at least four (4) Masters students since being appointed Lecturer.
Demonstrated evidence of securing at least one (1) research grant since being appointed Lecturer.
Proven record of attendance and contribution at learned conferences, seminars, or workshops.
Evidence of active participation or leadership in university activities.
Evidence of continued research in the field of Civil Engineering.
Qualifications in BA/BSc/HND as specified in the general recruitment overview.
