The University of Embu (UoEm) is seeking a qualified and experienced individual to join its faculty as a Senior Lecturer in Actuarial Science. This role involves contributing to the university's academic excellence through teaching, research, and postgraduate supervision. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a strong track record of scholarly publications and the ability to secure research grants.
Responsibilities and Duties
Deliver high-quality lectures and instructional materials to students in the Actuarial Science department.
Supervise and mentor postgraduate students, specifically at the Master's level, through to the successful completion of their programs.
Conduct original research in the field of actuarial science and publish findings in refereed scholarly journals.
Seek and secure external research funding to support academic projects and departmental growth.
Actively participate in university leadership roles and administrative activities.
Contribute to learned conferences, seminars, and workshops within the academic community.
Maintain an ongoing program of research and professional development.
Requirements and Qualifications
Must hold a PhD or Fellowship in Actuarial Science or a closely related field.
At least five (5) years of university teaching experience, with a minimum of three (3) years served as a full-time Lecturer.
A minimum of 32 publication points, with at least 24 points derived from articles in refereed scholarly journals since being appointed as a Lecturer.
Successful supervision of at least four (4) Masters students to completion since appointment as a Lecturer.
Clear evidence of successfully securing at least one (1) research grant since being appointed as a Lecturer.
Proven record of attendance and active contribution to conferences and seminars.
Evidence of leadership or active participation in university-wide activities and committees.
Demonstrated commitment to continued research.
