The Senior Engineer (Roads) is responsible for providing technical expertise in the development and maintenance of road infrastructure within Machakos County. This role involves overseeing construction projects, ensuring quality standards are met, and participating in the design and planning phases of highway engineering projects to improve the county's transport network.
Duties and Responsibilities
Taking part in supervising road works.
Preparing detailed design and working drawings for construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of all roads and highway structures.
Taking part in quality assurance technical, performance and road safety audits and preparing draft reports.
Implementation of road safety engineering programs and risk management activities.
Carrying out feasibility studies to determine viability for development of roads, infrastructure projects and environmental, social impact assessment.
Taking part in pavement evaluation and structural integrity surveys on existing roads.
Drafting tender documents and carrying out cost estimates for road works.
Compiling and analyzing data on ongoing and completed road projects and preparing data progress reports.
Compiling and collating data pertaining to road works and inventory.
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:
Served for a minimum period of six (6) years, with at least three (3) years in the grade of Engineer I (Roads) or in an equivalent and relevant position.
Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in any of the following disciplines: Civil Engineering, Civil and Structural Engineering, or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Certificate in Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
Registration by Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) as a Graduate Engineer.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
