Scientific Research Corporation is an advanced engineering company that provides innovative solutions to the U.S. Government, private industry, and international markets. We are seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to provide a full range of critical engineering and construction quality assurance, management, and technical oversight for the Nairobi CAA Project at the U.S. Embassy in Kenya.
This position involves performing technical inspections, monitoring contractor quality control programs, and reviewing project documentation to ensure compliance with applicable US codes and standard building practices. The project duration is 36 months with expected follow-on work within the Department of State (DoS) program.
Responsibilities
Perform technical inspections of civil and structural work and monitor the contractor's quality control program.
Review project drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with US codes and building practices.
Ensure the contractor performs contract work in accordance with design documents, narratives, and calculations.
Review engineering shop drawings to determine compliance with final design parameters.
Observe onsite construction to ensure construction elements are installed, formed, and executed properly.
Perform quality assurance tasks, ensuring contractor work is inspected and corrective actions are taken.
Review contractor submittals for compliance with contract requirements and resolve conflicts.
Monitor construction progress against the project schedule and submit weekly progress reports with technical recommendations.
Interpret engineering drawings and coordinate with other disciplines to identify non-compliance or design issues.
Prepare construction reports detailing progress and identifying problems related to civil engineering.
Evaluate contractor remedies and formulate solutions for the Project Director or Construction Manager.
Review design documents (drawings and specifications) prepared by the A/E and perform quality assurance.
Requirements
A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering from an accredited program.
A minimum of seven (7) years of experience on construction projects of similar scope and value.
Please note: Design office experience shall not count toward the required construction experience.
A Professional Engineering License (PE) is acceptable in lieu of a degree.
Comprehensive knowledge of International Codes.
Knowledge of Construction Safety regulations (e.g., EM 385-1-1, OSHA).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
Overseas experience is preferred.
