The role of Senior Business Development Officer – Secured Lending at SKM Africa involves originating and growing the logbook and asset-based lending business, structuring appropriate loan facilities, ensuring disciplined credit standards, and managing portfolio quality in line with company policies.

Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Origination
- Originate and grow a logbook and asset-based lending business through dealers, agents, referrals, and direct sourcing.
- Structure appropriate loan facilities based on asset value, client repayment capacity, and risk profile.
- Actively grow customer numbers while maintaining disciplined credit standards.
Credit & Asset Evaluation
- Conduct detailed borrower assessments, including income analysis, cash-flow review, and affordability checks.
- Verify ownership, condition, and market value of motor vehicles and other movable assets offered as collateral.
- Work closely with the Credit Perfection Team to ensure proper valuation, registration, and perfection of securities.
Portfolio Quality & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all KYC, AML, credit, and collateral-management policies.
- Maintain a high-quality portfolio by monitoring repayments, flagging early warning signs, and supporting collections.
- Ensure all loan documentation and asset custody controls are accurate and up to date.
Customer & Relationship Management
- Build strong, long-term client relationships anchored on transparency and service excellence.
- Drive repeat business and referrals through effective post-disbursement engagement.
Reporting & Performance Management
- Submit accurate and timely sales, disbursement, portfolio, and asset-tracking reports.
- Track performance against targets and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support, grow, and mentor junior BD Executives to deliver consistent performance.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree (Business-related field preferred).
- Experience: At least 4 years’ experience in logbook finance, asset-based lending, microfinance, or banking.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of collateralized lending and portfolio management.
- Risk Management: Strong understanding of credit risk, collateral evaluation, and customer lifecycle management.
- Communication: Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
- Personal Attributes: Results-driven, persuasive, highly self-motivated, high integrity, strong ethics, and commitment to responsible lending.
