Job Description
The Senior Officer, Banking Services at the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) provides high-quality services in line with procedures to achieve the Bank’s mandate and strategic objectives. This role involves performing Banking and Financial Markets functions at the Branch level, including account management, clearing operations, and customer enquiries.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Operational Responsibilities
Provide efficient and effective customer care and maintain order in the Banking Hall.
Perform teller functions and provide first-level approval for teller transactions.
Proofread all teller local cash and cheque deposit transactions and audit cash tills at the close of business.
Maintain the register of received documents and provide first-level verification.
Input or provide first-level approval for opening, amending, and closing of accounts.
Input or provide first-level approval of creation and withdrawal of mandates upon customers’ requests.
Process Internet Banking application forms and dispatch new tokens to users.
Issue account statements and certificates of balances for County Governments.
Manage clearing operations, including capturing images via MICR readers and transmission to the Clearing System.
Input or provide first-level approval in the T24 System for funds transfer instructions and transaction reversals.
Resolve customer queries, draft response letters, and maintain documentation files.
Strategic and Risk Management
Prepare reconciliations for Banking internal suspense accounts and maintain the risk register for Banking functions.
Implement audit recommendations and participate in system testing (T24, DhowCSD) for new developments.
Respond to enquiries on Government securities and assist customers with the DhowCSD System.
Conduct MPC Surveys.
Assist in the preparation of the Banking Strategic Plan and annual budget.
Maintain working relationships with Government departments, County Governments, and commercial banks.
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Banking, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
Professional qualification in Banking, Accounting, Finance, or Risk Management is an added advantage.
At least three (3) years of work experience in Banking Operations, Financial Services, Economics, or Accounting.
