Old Mutual Kenya is looking for a Senior Actuarial Valuations Specialist to provide comprehensive actuarial services to the Kenya business unit. The successful candidate will work closely with business entities and Group functions to meet needs related to reserving, pricing, product reviews, experience reviews, and solvency and capital management. This role involves conducting accuracy checks, analyzing data to draw strategic conclusions, and ensuring all results adhere to regulatory standards and best practices.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Technical Actuarial Support: Conduct and review internal actuarial liability valuations, analyze profitability/surplus, and perform embedded value calculations using Prophet and other technical tools.
Appointed Actuary Support: Collaborate with the appointed actuary to produce Financial Condition Reports and other necessary reporting documentation.
Product Profitability Review: Perform in-depth profitability and experience analysis to inform critical business decisions.
Solvency and Capital Management: Calculate solvency positions under various regimes and perform required stress tests.
Financial Modeling: Assist with modeling business scenarios and projects to support decision-making.
Strategy and Business Planning: Support financial projections for business planning, including solvency projections and scenario analysis.
Reinsurance Support: Conduct analysis to optimize reinsurance arrangements for the company.
Reporting and Documentation: Prepare technical reports and presentations for management and board-level review.
Risk Management Support: Identify, quantify, and monitor insurance, market, and credit risks.
Investment Strategy Support: Assist in developing and monitoring appropriate investment strategies and mandates.
Learning and Development: Mentor the actuarial analyst team on reporting value chains and actuarial concepts.
Business Partnering: Support effective decisions that optimize capital and align with company objectives.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Bachelor of Actuarial Science or a related degree in finance or mathematics.
Experience: A minimum of 8 years of relevant actuarial experience.
Certification: Nearly qualified or fully qualified actuary (10 papers and above).
Technical Skills: Extensive experience with IFRS17 concepts, expert knowledge of reserving software (preferably Prophet), and strong programming skills.
Knowledge: Deep understanding of insurance regulations and strong actuarial technical skills.
Soft Skills: Excellent analytical, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; ability to work under minimal supervision and prioritize multiple deliverables.
