Laikipia University is seeking a Security Officer I for a five-year contract term, with eligibility for re-appointment based on satisfactory performance. Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor, the successful candidate will lead the university's security operations, ensuring the safety of visitors, staff, and assets.
Duties and Responsibilities
Personnel Management: Supervise security staff, handle welfare matters (uniforms, leave rosters, duty rosters, etc.), and coordinate training and development.
Campus Safety: Ensure the security of all university visitors and enforce traffic discipline within the premises.
Monitoring & Reporting: Conduct regular security surveys, prepare summary reports on campus security, and submit comprehensive security reports to the Vice Chancellor.
Asset Protection: Prevent and report theft or loss of university property and ensure all assets are secured.
Investigation: Lead investigations into security breaches and incidences such as fire; assist in orderly evacuations to safe areas.
Intelligence & Surveillance: Gather intelligence and manage CCTV surveillance operations.
Policy & Strategy: Implement and review security policies, strategies, risk assessments, and emergency management procedures.
Liaison: Coordinate security operations with public law enforcement agencies and supervise contracted security services.
Requirements for Appointment
Professional Rank/Education: Must have attained the rank of Inspector of Police (or equivalent) OR hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Security-related studies from a recognized institution.
Experience: At least six (6) years of experience in security services, with a minimum of three (3) years served as Security Officer II or an equivalent level.
Additional Training: Attendance of a supervisory or professional course lasting more than two weeks is an added advantage.

Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)
Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)
Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)
Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI/Good Conduct)
Registered Credit Reference Bureau (CRB)
Commission for University Education (CUE) for foreign qualifications
Evidence of compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
