South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Security Officer. The university is a fully fledged institution that has experienced significant growth since its inception in 2008. The Security Officer will assist in the day-to-day management of the security department to ensure the safety of personnel, students, visitors, and university property.
Duties and Responsibilities
Human Resource Utilization: Allocating work on a day-to-day basis within the department to ensure optimum utilization of staff in achieving the department’s mandate.
Patrols and Surveillance: Conducting periodic patrols throughout the University to ensure all centers are manned and a tight perimeter is maintained at all times.
Incident Reporting: Reporting any theft or loss of University property for investigations and ensuring appropriate follow-up actions are taken.
Staff Welfare: Addressing the welfare of security staff, including ensuring uniforms and tools of work are available for efficient operations.
Management Briefing: Making regular reports on security matters for action and advice by Senior Management.
Asset Protection: Ensuring the security of university farm produce and equipment to maximize production and prevent misuse.
Visitor Safety: Ensuring the security of all university visitors and documenting reports accordingly.
Administration: Handling general correspondences for the security section in consultation with the Chief Security Officer.
Record Keeping: Managing welfare matters such as leave rosters and off-duty schedules, and monitoring vehicle movements (parking, accidents) in coordination with the Transport Officer.
Requirements and Person Specification
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
At least four (4) years of relevant working experience.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology, Social Order, or an equivalent qualification from an accredited and recognized university.
Must be at least 30 years of age.
Must have no criminal record.
Demonstrate high integrity.
Must be physically and medically fit.
Must be computer proficient and conversant with ERP systems.
Possess a valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
