Kenya Maritime Authority was established in June 2004 as the semi-autonomous agency responsible for regulatory oversight of the Kenyan maritime industry. The Authority is currently seeking a Search And Rescue Officer to join its team and help strengthen maritime administration in Kenya through the enhancement of regulatory and institutional capacities for maritime safety and security.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the development, review, update, and implementation of the national search and rescue (SAR) plan for coastal and inland waterways.
Support the conduct of public awareness campaigns focused on maritime search and rescue.
Assist in the implementation of International Conventions and various instruments relating to maritime search and rescue.
Manage the Kenya Ship Reporting System to track vessels around the coast and within the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) to call upon for support during SAR operations.
Oversee the management of the emergency beacons database (e.g., EPIRBs), ensuring it remains up-to-date and accessible on a 24-hour basis.
Assist in implementing the requirements of regional SAR agreements with neighbouring States.
Qualifications & Skills
Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunication Engineering.
Understanding of maritime search and rescue protocols is an advantage.
Technical proficiency in managing communication databases and reporting systems.
