As the School Counsellor at Nova Pioneer's Athi River School, you will have the opportunity to model, live, and lead the Nova Culture. You will be responsible for collaboratively developing a Comprehensive School Counseling Policy and delivering a Comprehensive School Counselling Program that includes referral processes and proactive intervention strategies.
Responsibilities
Deliver a Comprehensive School Counselling Program as well as a referral process.
Develop and maintain a written plan for effective delivery of the school counseling program based on best practice approaches and in line with the school’s ethos.
Communicate the goals of the comprehensive school counseling policy to education stakeholders including administrators, teachers, pupils, parents, and community leaders.
Maintain current and appropriate resources for education stakeholders and document all counseling visits, sessions, and incidences.
Provide direct services through the Guidance Curriculum, Individual Student Planning, and Preventive and Responsive Services.
Use data to develop comprehensive programs that meet student needs and provide termly data analysis reports for the School Principal and line coach.
Provide leadership and collaborate with other educators in the school-wide integration of best practices in counselling.
Implement appropriate and prevention-oriented group activities to meet student needs and school goals.
Assist all pupils, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career, and personal/social skills, goals, and plans.
Make use of data to devise interventions, in consultation with the Principal, and provide individual and group counseling to pupils with identified concerns.
Implement an effective referral and follow-up process and accurately use assessment procedures for structuring services.
Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills and use available technology resources to enhance the school counseling program.
Adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession.
Collaborate with parents/guardians and educators to assist pupils with educational, career, and life planning.
Conduct a yearly audit to review the counselling needs and trends in the school and analyze the effectiveness of the implementation.
Plan and deliver routine wellness sessions and parenting workshops for parents.
Collaborate with the Dean of Students and teachers to incorporate social and emotional learning during morning meetings.
Requirements and Qualifications
Professional Training in Counselling – Higher National Diploma or Degree in Counselling Psychology.
Between 3-5 years of experience in institutional counselling.
Passionate about student welfare with the ability to help students tackle life's challenges.
Previous experience counselling children/teens (experience working with children/teens with special needs is preferred).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to provide a clear and persuasive pitch.
Results-driven, goal-oriented, and able to take ownership of work.
Exceptional ability to think strategically while remaining detail-oriented and conscientious.
Ability to exercise discretion in handling sensitive matters.
A flexible, proactive, and adaptable approach to work.
Alignment with organizational culture, including a willingness to embrace mutual vulnerability and feedback.
