Job Description
Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO) is a non-profit organization based in Nairobi, Kenya and New York, NY that combats urban poverty and gender inequity in the slums of Nairobi. Founded in 2004, SHOFCO focuses on youth and gender empowerment through initiatives in education, health, and economic development. The Scholarship Coordinator will be responsible for managing relationships within the scholar support ecosystem, spearheading case management, and ensuring robust data monitoring and evaluation to support the welfare of scholarship recipients.
Responsibilities
Build and Manage Strong Relationships with Scholar Support Ecosystem
Liaise with SUN Committees and public school leadership (principals and Bursars) to support student onboarding and continuous support.
Identify students meeting eligibility criteria in collaboration with SUN and Gender departments.
Deliver mentorship and school holiday programming alongside Scholarship Officers and SUN facilitators.
Build the capacity of families to support their children's learning and well-being.
Develop partnerships with local organizations and government institutions supporting vulnerable girls and teen moms.
Spearhead Case Management and Scholar Welfare
Implement welfare programs and serve as a mentor to scholarship recipients.
Engage parents and guardians to ensure students remain enrolled and address any arising issues.
Identify and flag students at risk of dropping out or requiring psychosocial support.
Onboard new scholarship students and their families to program policies.
Partner with SUN committees to foster community ownership and accountability.
Data Management & Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL)
Manage the recruitment pipeline and collect streamlined data.
Conduct data audits and maintain up-to-date scholar records.
Ensure timely submission of necessary documents by scholars.
Support data collection through home and school visits.
Maintain the Scholarship Database.
Support Innovation
Contribute to process evaluations to improve intervention delivery.
Provide insights to enhance programmatic impact and efficiency.
Qualifications and Skills
Experience: At least 2 years of experience working in educational programs or community-based organizations supporting youth.
Education: Minimum Diploma-level education; a Bachelor’s degree is an advantage.
Certification: Professional certification in counseling is required.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in psycho-social counseling, data manipulation, analysis, and management.
Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal, communication, networking, and partnership development skills.
Attributes: Professional, proactive, results-driven, detail-oriented, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
