The Remote Learning Teacher facilitates remote learning and the dissemination of child protection messages to enhance child safety during school disruptions following climate events in Garissa and Tana River counties. This is a temporary assignment lasting approximately 6-8 weeks. The role involves guiding parents, caregivers, and learners on how to access educational materials on digital devices, such as mobile phones, while creating a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment that supports activity-based learning outside the traditional school setting.
Role and Responsibilities
Remote Learning Delivery
One-on-One Sessions: Initiate phone calls and deliver individualized learning sessions to targeted learners.
Assessment: Assess learning progress and tailor lesson delivery according to individual needs.
Support: Provide follow-up support on digital (Interactive Voice Response - IVR) lessons, including clarifying learning queries.
Feedback Collection: Collate learner feedback regarding IVR lesson challenges to inform live virtual sessions.
Virtual Classes: Conduct live virtual classes to address feedback and problem areas identified in IVR lessons.
Community Engagement
Information Dissemination: Share information on remote learning through public and social gatherings.
Digital Literacy Guidance: Provide guidance to learners and caregivers on using digital platforms (mobile phones) to access remote learning materials.
Advocacy: Disseminate messages regarding child rights, child safety, and referral/support mechanisms in the event of child abuse or exploitation.
Monitoring and Reporting
Risk Identification: Identify and flag dropout or protection risks and support the reintegration of students upon their return to school.
Case Management: Follow up on identified Child Protection (CP) cases for referral and continued support at the community level.
Coordination and Collaboration
School Leadership: Work closely with school headteachers.
PGI Collaboration: Collaborate with the Protection, Gender, and Inclusion (PGI) team on client feedback to ensure community feedback mechanisms are understood and accountability to affected persons is maintained.
Qualifications and Experience
Teaching Certification: Must be a registered P1 teacher with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
Specialization: Preference for candidates with a specialization in English and Mathematics learning areas.
Education: BA/BSc/HND qualification in a relevant field.
Professional Experience: Relevant experience in teaching, coaching, or community facilitation.
Subject Knowledge: Knowledge and experience in child rights, child protection, safeguarding, and referral pathways.
Communication Skills: Strong written and oral communication skills to articulate objectives and feedback clearly.
Soft Skills: Excellent time management skills to balance group sessions, individual coaching, and administrative tasks.
