The Remote Learning Teacher facilitates remote learning and the dissemination of child protection messages to enhance child safety during school disruptions following climate events in Garissa and Tana River counties. This is a temporary assignment lasting approximately 6-8 weeks.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will guide parents, caregivers, and learners on how to access educational materials using digital devices such as mobile phones. The goal is to create a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment that supports activity-based learning outside of the traditional school setting. Additionally, the role involves monitoring child safety and reporting any violations of child rights discovered during the assignment.
Key Responsibilities
Remote Learning Delivery
Initiate phone calls and deliver individualized (one-on-one) learning sessions to targeted students.
Assess learning progress and tailor lesson delivery to meet individual needs.
Provide follow-up support on Interactive Voice Response (IVR) digital lessons, clarifying content and responding to learning queries.
Collate learner feedback regarding challenges with digital lessons to inform future virtual sessions.
Conduct live virtual classes to address specific problem areas identified in the IVR lessons.
Community Engagement
Disseminate information regarding remote learning through public and social gatherings.
Provide technical guidance to learners and caregivers on using mobile platforms to access educational materials.
Promote messages on child rights, safety, and available referral mechanisms in cases of abuse or exploitation.
Monitoring and Reporting
Identify and flag students at risk of dropping out or facing protection issues.
Support the reintegration of students back into formal schooling after the crisis.
Follow up on identified Child Protection (CP) cases for referral and continued community support.
Coordination and Collaboration
Work closely with school head teachers to maintain educational continuity.
Collaborate with the Protection and Global Insights (PGI) team on client feedback mechanisms.
Ensure community feedback reaches the organization to promote accountability to affected persons.
Requirements and Qualifications
Must be a Teachers Service Commission (TSC) registered P1 teacher.
Preference for candidates with specialization in English and Mathematics learning areas.
Relevant experience in teaching, coaching, or community facilitation.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in child rights, child protection, and safeguarding.
Understanding of referral pathways for child protection cases.
Strong written and oral communication skills to articulate objectives and provide feedback.
Excellent time management skills to balance group sessions, individual coaching, and administrative tasks.
