United Bank for Africa (UBA) PLC is a leading pan-African financial services institution with a global footprint. We are looking for a Relationship Officer in Business Banking to join our team in Kenya. The primary objective of this role is to drive Liability and Asset growth targets within a dedicated portfolio, while expanding the customer base to increase fees and commissions.
Job Objective
- Deliver Liability and Asset growth targets per portfolio.
- Grow the customer base to increase fees and commissions.
- Contribute to business growth targets through increased customer transaction activity and deepening customer share of wallet.
- Take direct responsibility for building your portfolio through disciplined calling and strategic positioning of the bank.
- Maximize profit through new business opportunities from new and existing clients through marketing and networking initiatives.
- Develop professional and personal relationships to solidify connections with existing clients and prospects.
- Collaborate with internal partners (Operations, Risk, and Compliance) to ensure the best service delivery for the client.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Prospect for new Corporate, Business Banking, and high-net-worth clients to meet set targets.
- Develop and implement business growth strategies for different clients and sectors.
- Actively manage existing clients, including increasing wallet share.
- Participate in presentations, marketing drives, and relationship management activities.
- Provide an interface between the bank and customers to maintain good relations and meet customer needs.
- Prepare and submit credit proposals in conformity with Credit Policy guidelines in liaison with Relationship Managers.
- Maintain a 360-degree understanding of clients' financial needs and all bank products/services.
- Conduct regular client visits and prepare visit reports.
- Conduct high-level negotiations to secure new and additional business.
- Prepare various reports and customized client proposals based on specific needs.
- Coordinate with departments like Credit and Treasury for seamless service delivery.
- Perform competitor and industry analysis to monitor trends and product offerings.
Key Competencies & Skills Required
- Experience managing an active portfolio size of at least US$ 5m.
- Strong knowledge of credit analysis and trade finance practices.
- Proficiency in presentation and PowerPoint skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
- Strong numerical skills and financial acumen to analyze complex financial statements and ratios.
- Sound understanding of cash-flow cycles and cash management solutions.
- Knowledge of multi-level products available to business banking customers.
- Understanding of terms and conditions for multiple legal entities (companies, sole proprietorships, etc.).
- Pro-active, self-starter with the ability to anticipate strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Statistics, Marketing, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Professional courses will be an added advantage.
- At least 5 years of proven working experience in a Business Banking or Corporate Banking environment with specific exposure to Credit analysis.
