Equity Bank Kenya is seeking a Relationship Manager-SME to lead business growth within the SME segment at the branch level. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing both borrowing and non-borrowing customers, participating in strategic financial planning, and ensuring all branch activities align with the Bank's standards and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development
Participate in the development of annual and quarterly financial plans and budgets for the Branch.
Manage borrowing and non-borrowing customers to enhance loyalty, mitigate loss, and increase business.
Regularly review strategic initiatives of the branch/segments to take appropriate action.
Direct the growth of segments in optimum proportions to achieve set targets.
Conduct regular business visits to clients, prospects, and branch affiliates.
Maintain a sustainable, profitable, and high-quality balance sheet.
Enforce cost optimization of resources and manage segment costs.
Continuously review customer value propositions for various segments.
Market & Customer Service
Coordinate the implementation of sales initiatives with branch stakeholders.
Conduct market intelligence to identify new trends and regulatory changes.
Act as a brand ambassador and execute strategies that build the Equity brand.
Originate and sustain strategic business partnerships.
Ensure full adherence to the Bank’s customer service charter and position Equity Bank as the preferred choice.
Increase market share in a profitable, ethical, and sustainable manner.
Audit Risk & Compliance
Ensure the quality of the loan book within branch segments meets expected standards.
Participate in the Branch Credit Committee according to policy.
Adhere to policies from regulatory authorities, Equity Bank, and other stakeholders.
Implement effective Business Continuity plans for segments.
Maintain and improve audit and risk ratings within set thresholds.
Communicate the Bank’s risk and control environment to unit staff.
People Management
Harness and create new competencies to achieve competitive advantage.
Maintain appropriate staffing levels and caliber to deliver exceptional service.
Manage succession planning at segment levels to ensure business continuity.
Mentor and coach staff to build capacity and career progression.
Maintain high morale and conduct performance management evaluations promptly.
Adhere to HR policies in employee management.
Performance & Reporting
Use the Bank’s Management Information System (MIS) for performance management.
Ensure optimum segmentation of the client database for targeted marketing.
Submit timely reports to stakeholders to aid in decision-making.
Qualifications, Experience & Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum of 6 years’ work experience in the SME segment or a similar role.
Strong knowledge of organizational effectiveness and operations management.
Experience in budgeting and forecasting.
Ability to develop, implement, and review policies and procedures.
Ability to oversee reporting, planning, and auditing processes.
Understanding of necessary legal and regulatory documents.
Excellent communication skills and problem-solving abilities.
