Registered Nurse

Responsibilities

Direct Patient Care (50%)

• Maintain a primary care/urgent care clinic for all ICASS eligible DHA American Employees and their family members.
• Maintain an occupational health unit for all embassy employees, including LES, Contractors, and DHA.
• Evaluate and assess patients through health history, observation, interview, physical examination, and selected diagnostic measures.
• Working within the Nursing Scope of Practice, select appropriate actions including treatment, referral for additional care, or collaborative care with Medical Unit providers.
• Document and maintain an appropriate record of all patient visits in the Medical Unit.
• Provide appropriate patient education such as wound care, diabetes care, or other specific health-related topics.
• Respond to all Mission clinical medical needs including home visits, hospital visits, and compound emergencies.

Medical Evacuations (10%)

• Arrange Medevacs through RMO/MP and in coordination with MED/Foreign Programs or the appropriate Regional Medevac Center.
• Draft MED Channel cables and referral documents with appropriate medical coding.
• Coordinate requests for specialty appointments and serve as a liaison between local providers and MED.
• Assist patients with access to medical services prior to evacuation and accompany patients as a medical attendant when necessary.

Medical Clearance Examinations (10%)

• Prepare cables for fund cites requests and verify Clearance-related medical and laboratory invoices for payment.
• Schedule medical appointments, labs, and special tests as required by MED/Clearances.
• Assist medical personnel with clinical examinations performed in the medical unit and perform basic diagnostic tests.
• Review all completed medical clearance papers for thoroughness and transmit to MED/Clearances.

Immunization Clinic (10%)

• Assess each patient’s immunization needs using CDC and ACIP guidelines and provide appropriate immunizations.
• Maintain logs and databases compliant with U.S. Federal Regulations and requirements.
• Budget for, order, and rotate all stocks of vaccines; remain current with vaccination requirements and adverse events.

Internal Controls and Mission Response (10%)

• Maintain inventory and procurement process for all medical supplies and medical equipment.
• Perform workplace health and safety surveys with the POSHO.
• Maintain an accident log book and provide essential reporting per MED/SHEM guidelines and HR requirements.
• Serve as the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator responsible for maintenance, inventory, and training regarding emergency medical supplies and equipment on all USG facilities.

Local Medical Provider Relations (10%)

• Maintain a list of acceptable local medical consultants and their credentials.
• Identify quality providers and facilities in the local community and work with the RMO/MP to develop a vetted referral network.
• Monitor public health issues that may impact the Mission community.
• Assess levels of care at clinics, laboratories, blood banks, and hospitals to update the MCI registry of services.
